BRAND AND BROADCAST RESEARCH

One of the magazines that I have focused on and want my magazine to be like is NME. Therefore the target audience of NME will be a similar audience that I will aim my magazine at. When researching the target audience for NME I found that
. The average age of readers is 25 years old
. It costs £2.20 which shows they are making sure it is affordable for a younger audience
. The target audience is males aged 17-30
. The people who read the magazine are quite young and trendy people who seem themselves as being alternative and unqiue.
. The majority of readers enjoy new music and new entertainment
. 73% belong to the social class ABC1

Another magazine that I focused on was Q magazine which is of a similar style to new musical express or NME. I followed a similar idea of looking what there target audience is and why as I believe that my audience will be quite similar.
. The audience is split with 75% of readers being female with 25% being female.
. Q magazine mainly targets a male audience
. The average age of readers is 29 years old
. Like NME the audience of this magazine are quite individualistic
. Enjoy music that would be described as indie however Q magazine focuses a lot on Rock
. Attract their audience being including the newest and most popular news.

Billboard is of a different style to NME, Q and what I want my magazine to be like. However I did research into their target audiences so I could compare the two different styles and see the similarities and differences.
. The target audience ranges from people aged 16-26
. They attract their audience by providing them with the latest updates from the charts
. Focuses on a wide range of genres such as Rock, metal, pop, R&B and many more therefore there is something for everyone as opposed to NME and Q who focus on specific types of music.
. In terms of gender the main audience is younger women as it uses a lot of female artists on the front cover who will appeal more to their tastes of music.
