I selected a micture of boys and girls all aged between 16-21 years of age to be part of my focus group. I referenced back to this focus group as well as other people throughout the making and development of all my products. I felt that this would keep my focused on what my target audience really wanted in a music magazine.

I communicated with the focus group via the Facebook messenger app. I added them to a group chat which enabled me to contact them all at once so that they could express their views and ideas together. Using social media to conduct a focus group was a big help as it was difficult to maintain a focus group throughout the whole project in person. To do this I would of had to arrange a number of meetings in dinner hours and frees which everyone may have not been able to attend due to things such as other college lessons etc.

Whilst waiting for the results of my survery to be collected I did some further research into how often people listen to music and how they spend their money on it etc.

To find my target audience, I created a questionnaire for 10-30 year olds with various questions in relation to music. I decided to use Survery Monkey (an online questionnaire making website) to create this questionnaire. The benefit of using survey monkey is that once people respond it analyses the results, enabling me to clearly see my findings and helping me to make informed decisions. I had 35 responses which really helped me to determine what my target audience was and learn more about them.

My survery was mostly completed by 16-21 year olds, with the second most popular group being 22-30 year olds and the least popular being 10-15 year olds. This heavily influenced my decision to make the target audience 16-21 year olds as they showed the largest interest in the music survery.

A large majority of people said that they read music magazines 2-3 times a month. Therefore a new issue of my magazine would most likely be released every 2 weeks as opposed to weekly so that there would be 2 issues every month.

The responses from this question is what made me decide that my magazine would focus on indie music as it is evidently the most popular genre of music amongst my target audience.

As 75% of the people who responded had attended music festivals I will include information about them in my magazine.

After seeing the results from this question I will now consider making my magazine £2-£3 pound an issue.
