Double page spread research

This is a double page spread from Vibe magazine which is showing an exlcusive interview with Jay Z. One of the main reasons I like this double page spread is due to how the publisher of Vibe have put the "J" behind the text. It instantly makes page seem more appealing as opposed to it just being half a page of small text and therefore their is a better chance of the reader being interested and wanting to read it. It also immediatley tells the reader that this interview involves Jay Z. I may use a similar idea when I come to doing my double page spread. Straight away by using Jay Z it drags the reader in as he is a well known artist who a lot of people will be interested in. Therefore the interview is more appealing to the reader than if it was a less popular artist who has unheard of. The fact that Jay Z himself is wearing sunglasses hides a big part of his facial expression and therefore gives the reader no hunts on whether this is a positive or negative interview. Therefore the only way of the the audience finding out is to read the magazine. However Vibe do include a quote from Jay Z which may give the reader a small hint about what the interview is going to be about. The mise on scene of the image (sunglasses, necklace) represents his laid back personality.

This is a double page sperad from the magazine NME. As you can see it is quite different to the vibe magazine which shows NME have made sure that with their double page spread that they have kept their unique style. One way that it is quite unqiue is due to the fact that the title of the interview is a quote from the artist as opposed to just putting "exclusive interview with...". NME have also kept to the idea of using indie artists with a quite rebellious attitude. The topic of the interview is questioning Davey Havok about what he gets up to on a friday night and does he ever just have a casual one. This then links with his image of being quite rebellious due to the tatoos and piercings. I think that my magazine will follow a similar style to that of NME therefore the story involving my artist will follow a similar topic of the indie rebellious attitude. I will also try to use a unique style when adressing the audience about the topic of the text instead of just putting "exclusive interview with...". NME have clearly shown what the interviewer and artist say by highliting the interviewers questions. This makes it easier for the reader.

This double page spread is from the music magazine, Top of the Tops. This magazine is a complete contrast to the Vibe and NME magazines for reasons such as the layout, the content and the target audience. Top of the pops have took a different approach to the layout of their doube page spread by actually taking the questions across both pages, as oppopsed to having one of the pages completley taken up by a picture of an artist. The colour scheme of the magazine is another way that is differentiates from NME and Vibe as it uses a lot of pink and purples, as result of it being aimed at a younger female audience. However this is something that I wouldn't do with my magazine as it is aimed at both males and females who would be slightly older. In terms of content that females want to read, top of the pops have gone with quite a lot of gossip such as the title, "No, matter what you read, I'm not dating anyone!". Alongside the quote is the person who has said it, Taylor Swift, who is someone a lot of younger females will look up to and admire. I may include a quote that stands out on my double page spread, however the content may be less gossip related. They have then included other pictures related to other stories which is something that I won't do as I want article to focus solely on one artist.
